What is in a name? That which we call a rose, that any other name would smell as sweet?

Okay, a BIG topic of debate in our house is names. I would like to change Miss K's name. My plan would be to keep her current name as a middle name, but I would like to give her a name. Mike feels strongly that her name is her name, and that at 6 years old we should not be changing it. I understand what he is saying, and my desire to "rename" her is not from disrespect for her or for who named her before. We put so much time and thought into our girls names, and their names mean something to us, and hopefully to them someday. I want to give Miss K the same.

My problem is that her name is perfectly fine, and common here in Canada, and Mike is so resistant, so I need to fine the Perfectly Right name, something that is much better then just fine, or what would be the point in changing it. Recently another RR mother welcomed people to offer name suggestions for her new joy, and I thought it was an excellent idea. I would love for any and all of you out there to suggest a name for our new princess. We are open to pretty much anything, but here are some that will not make the cut (because they are already used in our family).

Destiny
Emily
Maire
Sara
Elizabeth
Ann
Kristina
Mary
Nicole
Kelly
Jessica

We are open to names that are different, and have different spelling. Classic names are okay, but we try not to use overly popular names. Other then repeating names, my own minds limitations could be why I'm having so much trouble finding the perfect name for her.

Look at this little angel, and please leave a comment with a suggestion for her new name.

IMPORTANT!
FOR THOSE IN THE KNOW, PLEASE DO NOT SAY HER CURRENT NAME, AS WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION ON THIS BLOG AT THIS TIME.

  7. Thanks everyone:) Keep them coming! Remeber Andrea named her Kameron, it is close to her name, which just like Kameron can be spelt with a K or a C. For all of you RR families, if you find her on the "other site", and she is there, that's where the other picture is from, translate the page and you will see her name.

I think it's a good idea to give her a name of your choice to make her feel like she too was named by you. She can have a first and a second name, can't she? Then you may still choose to call her by her present name and she may choose later on to change which name she goes by!

  15. Okay, if you know me then you know how I feel about the Twilight books, but I just found Renesmee on babynames.com. It does give it's credit to Stephanie for inventing the name, it has a meaning, which is apparently is "Reborn & Loved", and there are 2 photos of little ones who's parents have name them it... SERIOUSLY people? Please do not suggest this name.

I'm loving all of the suggests and I have a list going, not sure that I've found the perfect one yet so please keep sending them:)

  18. I very strongly feel that she should keep her name as I sure hate that I lost mine. strange country, strange language, strange name that sounds to me very stressful.

  19. I like her given name & the other names that are family related to you go well... I don't think you need to change anything. Lots of ideas have come in though....... I like alot of them, but still like her given name.......

  20. I need to let everyone know, as I though that I did in my post, that is was not meant to offend or disrepect ANY ONE, and certainly not our princess who waits for her family. I appricaiate all comments, even those who have honestly said that they think we should NOT change her name. Changing her name is not a certainy, just a thought. And considering that some children DO want to be named by their new family I think it is a very valid thought. To ask for suggestions here, to me is the same as having a conversation with someone about what your favorite names are, which people do all of the time.

  21. There can't be much wrong in giving her the choice and see what feels natural, can it?

Seeing that she is such a petite, dark Eastern European girl, I'd consider the following-

    Rania
    Agota
    Ewa
    Maria
    Tatiana
    Ella
    Viktoria
    Mia / Mie
    Cecilie
    Anette
    Maja

And I also happen to think that "Kameron" is pretty sweet ;-)

    Good luck to you all.

  22. We moved our son's Ukrainian name to his middle name because it wasn't common and gave him a family name from my grandpa's side. He love them both. Our eldest wanted to change her name but all her friends gave her a hard time and at the last minute kept her first name and we gave her a family name for her middle name. She has used her middle name ever since becoming an American. Both children are proud that they were named after someone in our family. Gives them that added sense of belonging.
Although, I do agree with the one poster...she looks like a JOY!

  23. She looks like...

    Simona (See-MOAN-Uh)
    Katarzyna (Cat-ARE-Jin-Uh or Cat-Are-GEN-Ya -- usually, it's the former)
    Evelyn
    Jesslyn
    Kylie
    Caylee

Simona and Katarzyna more so than the others.

I'd wait until you meet her. Unlike babies, older children don't really mold to whatever name you give them. It really needs to "fit" and you won't know what fits until you meet her. Just my own experience. ;-)
